Colonial Australian Art (European) - This period covers paintings, and other items of historic interest, from the first European settlement to the late 19th century.
 
Contemporary Australian art - Adelaide has a very healthy and vibrant contemporary art scene with well established commercial galleries representing contemporary artists from South Australia, as well as the rest of the country.
 
Indigenous Australian Art (Aboriginal) - Adelaide has some excellent and reputable galleries representing artists from the Ampilatwatja, Ikuntji, Irrunytju, Kayili, Keringke, Minymaku, Ninuku, Papunya Tula, Papulankutja, Urapuntja, Warakurna, Warlukurlangu, Warmun and other communities.
